Solar Garden Fountains:  Why Go Solar?

I am sure that you have heard from at least one source, be it professional or anecdotal, that the sound of running water has been shown to promote relaxation and reduce stress levels.  The sound of running water can also act as a sort of 'white noise' to help block out the sounds of machines running or cars passing on a busy street.  (This secondary benefit has been noted as priceless among urban dwellers who want that same feeling of peace on a patio or balcony.)  And yet a third reason for owing a garden fountain has been discovered by people who live in the warmer climates.  Garden fountains produce a small amount of evaporation which is beneficial to the plants around them as well as pets and people.  Even though this evaporation is minuscule the effect is nevertheless perceived as cooling and peaceful.

Maybe you are familiar with all the reasons to own a garden fountain but the question here is why by a solar garden fountain?  Some of the following reasons may surprise you.

First and formost in my humble opinion is convenience.  Most solar garden fountains on the market today are manufactured so that there are very few pieces to set up and deal with in installation.  There are no electrical plugs or cords, no ditches to dig to conceal and protect said cords, no hunting for an outdoor outlet or trying to figure out how to hard wire the thing into your home's electrical system.   You just take it out of the box, stand it up in a sunny place and add water.  It's almost too easy!

Of course there are many types of solar garden fountains on the market today.  And I have to be honest with you, there is one type that does have a cord.  But it might not be what you think...the cord runs from the fountain to the solar collector.  This type does have an extra set up step but for apartment and condo dwellers this is the best innovation to come along in years.  You see by having your solar collector separate from the fountain you are able to place the collector in the sun and the fountain in the shade (i.e. hang the collector from the side of your balcony or attach it to the roof of your covered deck or patio)  This particular innovation allows solar fountain owners to enjoy their fountains anywhere.

There is one more feature in modern solar garden fountains that I would like for you to consider: the battery pack.  Several of the above mentioned solar fountains (with separate solar collectors) are equipped with rechargeable batteries.  The solar panel recharges the battery pack and the fountain actually runs off of the battery and not the solar panel.  While this type of solar garden fountain is a little more expensive it does have the added benefit of being able to run twenty-four hours a day.

This capability addresses a complaint often heard with solar garden fountain owners that the fountain only runs when sunlight is available.  And while it is true that most people usually do not spend time in their gardens when it is raining or snowing it is good to know that now you can enjoy your fountain in the evenings or show it off at parties.  Most of the batteries contained in these battery packs are your basic rechargeable AA's.  So if you haven't had sun in a few days you can bring them in the house and recharge them to have your beautiful fountain running for your quiet evening at home or your party.

I hope I have convinced you to consider bringing a solar garden fountain to your home.  I know I left off the most obvious reason to own a solar garden fountain and that is the fact that it will cost you nothing to run.  Solar power remains free to us all so celebrate the sun and the freedom and bring a bit of tranquility to your life today!
